A profusion of scented roses lies at the heart of this classical English garden in Dunkeld, Joburg
Words Tess Paterson Photographs Christoph Hoffman
Sheltered from the road by a row of enormous trees, this secluded garden in the heart of Dunkeld has an unmistakably English feel. Semi-formal rather than country in style, it’s a mix of immaculate lawns and orderly gravel, overseen by a plethora of roses that soften and colour the verdant backdrop. Originally from Cape Town, the owners bought the property because of its Cape townhouse feel, and 13 years ago, re-designed the existing garden to complement this classical aesthetic.
